How To Get Rid Of Belly Fat After The Holidays
By: Dylan Hovet
holidays are now over and it's time to start working on that six pack for summer.
In all seriousness, getting rid of belly fat is a difficult task, and part of the task is accepting that you have to actually do some work and start making some changes to your lifestyle.
So here are some tips that I think will help you get rid of belly fat:
Sleep more. Yes, you heard me right. Sleep studies have shown that people that get the recommended amount of sleep each night (7 to 8 hours) weigh less and have less fat than people who get less than the recommended amount of sleep. This phenomenon has to do with the hormones leptin and ghrelin, which are made in the fat cells and the gastrointestinal tract, respectively. Leptin signals your brain that you are full and ghrelin signals your brain to stimulate your appetite. When you don't get enough sleep, the levels of leptin in your body decreases while the levels of ghrelin increases, causing you to feel hungry and lose your sense of fullness at the same time. So get more sleep! If you ask me, this is a pretty cool way to promote belly fat loss. By getting more sleep, you will also have more energy to exercise and will not have to rely on food to help keep you awake.
Eat breakfast. Believe it or not, eating a healthy breakfast can help you lose weight and get rid of belly fat. Eating breakfast increases your metabolism so that your body burns calories evenly throughout the day and helps prevent the storage of fat on your stomach. Basically, you are kick starting your body and preventing it from going into starvation mode, where it does everything possible to hang onto fat and conserve calories. When you don't eat breakfast, your metabolism slows down, so later in the day when you eat your body is still in a sluggish state and not prepared to utilize the energy from the food you are eating. As a result, the unused calories are stored as fat. Yikes!
Reduce your stress. What a thought, huh? No only does reduced stress prevent health problems in many areas, it can also promote fat loss. For one thing, you are less likely to feel cravings for junky comfort foods to help you cope. But a more serious matter is the hormone cortisol, which is produced in high quantities in your adrenal cortex when you are anxious or stressed. Coritsol can slow down your metabolism and make it harder for you to get rid of stored fat. Methods you can use to reduce stress include mediation, self hypnosis, yoga, and exercise. I recommend looking into these methods and try them out to see which one works best for you.
