You might disagree, but hear me out on this.  Flax seed oil is a yellowish to clear oil extracted from the flax plant by a method known as cold pressing, which is then followed by solvent extraction.  It is a mixture of triglycerides that differ in terms of their fatty acid constituents.  The fatty acids that make up these triglycerides are the saturated stearic acid and palmitic acid, the monounsaturated oleic acid, the doubly unsaturated linolenic acid, and the triply unsaturated a linolenic acid.

This oil is thought to be beneficial to the body simply because it contains fatty acids, but the truth is that not all fatty acids are healthy for you.  of course they all play roles to a certain degree that keep the body running, but too much of the wrong type of fatty acids can be damaging.  Saturated fats are something that you only need to a degree, and if you are like most people you already get too many.

High dietary intake of coconut oil, butter, ground beef, dark chocolate, salmon, eggs, cashews, soybean oil palm oil, tallow, lard, and flax seed oil can lead to atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease.  Studies have shown that high intakes of palmitic and stearic acid in parti

cular lead to a significantly increased risk of heart disease and stroke.  Oleic and linoleic acid can also be detrimental to your health.

Oleic acid is known for hindering the progression of Adrenoleukodystrophy or ALD, which is a fatal disease which affects the adrenal glands and the brain.  This fatty acid is also suspected to be a memory booster.  Another effect of high levels of oleic acid and monounsaturated fatty acids in the membranes is an increased risk of developing breast cancer.

The linoleic acid present in flax seed oil is an omega 6 fatty acid, and you don’t want to increase the levels of your omega 6s either.  You probably already get too many omega 6s in your diet, and not nearly enough omega 3s.  when more omega 6s are present than omega 3s you run the risk of developing inflammatory ailments such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, arthritis, and inflammatory bowel disease.

You need to quit using flax seed oil as your method of obtaining essential fatty acids, because this oil does not offer you what you need.  The healthy dietary supplement that you need is a daily dose of DHA and EPA rich omega 3 fatty acid fish oil supplement.  These key omega 3 fatty acids offer you protection from all of the inflammatory ailments I spoke of, and they offer more benefits as well.

DHA and EPA omega 3 fatty acids have also been proven to improve the health of your brain.  These fatty acids are necessary in order to prevent or treat maladies such as depression, dyslexia, dyspraxia, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.  DHA and EPA have also been clinically proven to prevent the formation of amyloid plaque in the brain, which is believed to be a cause of Alzheimer’s disease.

Bottom line, flax seed oil offers you nothing at all, while fish oil offers a chance at a truly healthy life.
