Weight loss is necessary not only for looks; it could sometimes even save your life. Your health and quality of life could drastically improve with the loss of excess weight. Experts believe that even a loss of 10% of your body weight greatly reduces your chances of developing weight related conditions like diabetes and heart related problems. Weight loss definitely makes you feel better, look better and live better.

Many people are unsuccessful at weight loss because they follow severely restricted diets that have negative impact on the body. It is ironical but true that by reducing your calorie intake too much, you actually encourage your body to hold onto its reserves of fat. When you reduce your choice of food groups to one or two, you cannot supply the body with all the nutrients it needs. This triggers cravings and uncontrolled eating. Worst of all, human beings are not emotionally designed to subsist on small portions and boring food. Unlike the bees and birds, we cannot tolerate the same kind of food day in and day out.

ight that way. A mother of three young children has no choice but to look for ways of 'eating' herself to weight loss! To my surprise, I discovered that starving yourself was not necessary to achieve weight loss.

The first thing you have to do is to be aware of your eating patterns. Then, identify those calorie laden extras that you are treating yourself to. Cut them out. For instance, I used to love helping myself to a small bowl of full fat ice cream after dinner every night. Cutting that out helped me save over 140 calories every day!

White flour may taste great but it contains a lot of empty calories. That is why when I go shopping I always tell my children that 'if it isn't brown, leave it down'. Whole grain cereals and bread contain more fiber and less sugar. Thus they keep you feeling full for a longer period of time. Besides, after a while you will simply start loving their crunchy texture.

These days, many people eat much more than their body needs. Restaurants, takeaways and shops everywhere encourage you to eat large portions of food. That is why it is smart to cut portions. Even a 5% cut will drastically reduce the number of calories you are taking in. This will accelerate you weight loss efforts by a whopping 50%!

Your digestive system needs some amount of rest, just as you do. Try to have dinner as early as possible. Then, allow your body to take a long rest by abstaining from eating till it is time for a healthy breakfast. This will help you lose weight and sleep well.

Many people take in a lot of empty calories in the form of unnecessary drinks. Alcohol, carbonated drinks and juices simply give your system large doses of calories. Replacing these drinks with fresh pure water will help you lose weight.

As you can see, the idea behind this weight loss strategy is to eat smart. Eating smart helps you lose weight and keep it off. It alters your eating patterns for life and allows you to maintain your weight easily.
